LANGHORNE, PA - Experience pays. Just ask the women's soccer team following Saturday's 2-0 shutout against CSAC foe Cedar Crest College.

With both squads positioned in a deadlock the first 65 minutes of play, it was a senior tandem that stepped up to help push PBU to their first ever CSAC triumph.

Amanda Kirkner and Brittany Sparling, the lone (healthy) fourth-year players on the roster, each found the back of the cage in a span of 3:11 as the Crimson Eagles wore down a Falcon squad that didn’t benefit from a lone sub on their bench, as all 11 Cedar Crest starters were forced to play the entirety of the 90 minute contest.

In fact, at one point when a Cedar Crest player went down it looked as if the Falcons might have to gut it out with just 10 on the field. Thankfully, that didn’t happen, but nonetheless PBU held a distinct advantage strictly in terms of healthy, able bodies.

Perhaps expected to win on paper in light of the aforementioned fact, Saturday’s triumph wasn’t quite the walk-in-the-park some may have initially expected. The Crimson Eagles managed just eight first half shots and found themselves up against a gritty Cedar Crest squad that simply refused to roll over.

But as time wore on, the Falcons wore down, a fact the host squad made sure to take full advantage of in the second stanza. PBU doubled their shot count in the second half from eight to sixteen, but it wasn’t until Sparling connected in the 65th minute that the Crimson Eagles were able to fully capitalize.

Three minutes later, Kirkner chipped in her third score of the year, giving PBU a little breathing room down the final 20-plus minutes of play.

When time eventually expired, the Crimson Eagles found themselves on the high end of a 24-7 shot advantage and a 12-3 edge in corners. Junior keeper Kristen Lyszczasz colleted four saves on the afternoon, posting her second career shutout in the process.

Saturday’s effort marks the first win in four tries for the Crimson Eagles, but more importantly, gives the squad their first ever triumph in CSAC play. PBU moves to 3-8 overall on the season (1-3 CSAC) while the Falcons remain winless at 0-8 (0-4 CSAC).

The team will head west on Thursday to go up against rival Lancaster Bible College in an all important NCCAA II East Region match-up at 4:00 pm.
