PBU Clings to Postseason Dreams in 4-1 Rout

Junior defender Phil Haas connected for his second score of the season in the soccer team's 4-1 triumph over visiting Keystone College.
Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA - Entering Saturday's contest with Keystone College, things were beginning to look somewhat gloomy for the men's soccer team.

The group was coming off back-to-back conference losses, both games that they had their chances in but couldn't capitalize. Additionally, PBU was on the playoff bubble looking in due to a seventh place standing in league play.

Not that a loss on Saturday would have completely ruined PBU's postseason hopes, but all-in-all a defeat would have made things much more difficult - if not impossible - for the group to control their own destiny over the last three CSAC games of the year.

But thankfully, the Crimson Eagles decided to take fate into their own hands Saturday afternoon, running away with a convincing 4-1 victory over Keystone College in a game that the host squad controlled, for the most part, from start to finish.

Believe it or not, the win the Crimson Eagles so desperately needed vaults PBU back into fourth place among in the oh-so-important conference standings, throwing the team smack in the middle of a tight postseason race.

PBU scored three first half goals - two of them thanks to senior forward Jon Waszaj in a span of two minutes - to help the team to their third CSAC triumph of the season. Juniors Jake Miller and Phil Haas joined in on the scoring binge for the winning squad, as the four goal outburst is the greatest output the PBU offensive unit has managed over the past eight games. Miller also dished out two helpers during the win, while seniors Jeremy Dunham and Warren scales each tallied an assist as well.

Statistically, the Crimson Eagles held a distinct edge in shots on the afternoon (18-9) and limited the Giants to just two corner kicks for the game. PBU sophomore keeper Andy Ecker finished with four saves.

The soccer squad will take a break from conference action when the team hosts Penn State Berks on Thursday in their final non-conference meeting of the season, a match that’s slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
