KISSIMMEE, FL - Summer Mullen decided to turn it on when it counts.
In an epic battle of the Eagles, the Crimson Eagle all-conference midfielder scored the first three goals of the game on the way to her most productive offensive output of the season in PBU's 4-0 route over the Golden Eagles of Cincinnati Christian in the first round of NCCAA II playoffs.
In spite of the eventual 4-0 win and somewhat lopsided victory, the game was much closer for the majority of the contest than the final score indicates. In fact, Cincinnati Christian only trailed 1-0 after the first 65 minutes of play to remain within striking distance. However, Mullen's second goal of the day with 25 minutes remaining opened the door for two more Crimson Eagle scores before the final horn.
Mullen ended up tagging her third goal shortly after her second, and senior forward Hannah Messenger managed to get on the board with a goal of her own late in the second half off a pass from sophomore teammate Karly Haushalter. Juniors Alex Hayes and Amanda Kirkner both notched assists in the win.
PBU held a slight advantage in shots for the day with a 14-10 overall edge. Melissa Landis recorded six saves during the contest on the way to her 8th shutout of the season.
The #2 ranked Crimson Eagles will take on the winner of #3 Southeastern versus #6 Providence tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 pm in the semi-finals of the NCCAA tournament.
