Crimson Eagles advance in stunning fashion

Team scores game winning goal as time expires

KISSIMMEE, FL - If the men's soccer team wanted to keep things exciting in the first round of the NCCAA tournament, they undoubtedly achieved their goal.

PBU used a thrilling finish late Friday night over Providence to help advance the team into the semi-finals of the national tournament. The Crimson Eagles stretched their first round game out as long as humanly possible, waiting until the very last second of overtime and as the horn sounded to put in the first and only goal of the game in the 100th minute of play.

Fittingly, NEAC player-of-the-year Derek Mosely ended up being the hero of the contest by netting his team leading 17th goal of the season to help ensure the team's second consecutive appearance in the NCCAA semi-finals.

Although the Crimson Eagles were able to register their second highest shot total in a game this season, Providence's defense locked down and managed to "bend but not break" against PBU's constant offensive pressure. For the game, the Crimson Eagles outshot their opponent by a lopsided count of 37-2.

Friday's victory means the Crimson Eagles are now 16-5-2 for the season, including 13-2-1 over their last 16 games.

In addition, the win pits the soccer team against a somewhat familiar opponent in Southeastern College. PBU will finally have a chance tomorrow afternoon to avenge last season's loss to the #2 ranked Fire in which they fell in the NCCAA Championship game, 1-0.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm with the winner advancing into Monday night's championship game.
