Cairn (10-21 / 5-3 UNITED EAST) controlled the match early, building a 15-9 lead in the first set. The Highlanders went on a 4 point run capped off by a block by freshman Opposite
Nehemiah Clark (Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea / Ukarumpa International School). Saint Elizabeth (2-15 / 0-8 UNITED EAST) rallied to cut the lead, but Cairn regained control and claimed the first set 25-14.
Saint Elizabeth jumped out in front early in the second set but the Highlanders bounced back to craft a 14-10 advantage. Saint Elizabeth cut the lead down to 14-13 before Clark rattled off 3 consecutive kills to extend the Highlander lead. The Cairn lead was stretched even further when freshman Middle Reuben Leonard scored 3 straight aces to put the set out of reach. Cairn won the second set 25-17.
Saint Elizabeth dominated early in the 3rd set jumping out in front 10-2, it took Cairn until 17-17 to get back even with Saint Elizabeth. The two teams exchanged points until Saint Elizabeth narrowly escaped with a 25-23 win in the third set.
The 4th set saw the Highlanders play from in-front for a majority of the set. Cairn led both 17-12 and 24-20 before allowing Saint Elizabeth to come back and tie the set at 24. The Eagles then scored 3 of the last points to win 27-25.
Junior hitter
Sam Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / International Christian School Uijeongbu) took control in the deciding 5th set, scoring the first 4 Highlanders points of the set. Poirier and the Highlanders continued rolling building a 12-6 lead over the Eagles. Saint Elizabeth rallied back but the Highlanders squashed the rally and claimed the final set 15-13.
