Huntingdon, PA - Cairn falls short against Marymount and Juniata.
Match 1 - Cairn - 1 Marymount - 3
The Highlanders struggled early in the first set, allowing Marymount (9-7 / 0-1 CVC) to build an early 10-4 lead. Cairn (3-13 / 0-0 UNITED EAST) battled back drawing within 2 points at 18-20 after a kill by junior outside hitter
Jesse Stuart (Chattanooga, TN / Chiang Rai International Christian School). Marymount closed out the set, scoring 5 of the final 6 points to claim the first set.
Set 2 once again saw the Saints jump out to an early lead which was never threatened and Marymount took the second set 25-16.
Cairn responded in the third set fueled by 4 kills from Stuart the Highlanders won set number 3 25-21.
The fourth set went down to the wire with Cairn leading 23-22 before Marymount strung together 3 consecutive points to claim the set and the match.
Match 2 - Cairn - 0 Juniata - 3
Set 1 saw Juniata grab control early and ride their momentum to a 25-14 win.
The second set was more of the same with a 5-0 run in the middle of the set serving as the only notable Highlander offense. Juniata claimed that set 25-18.
Despite 2 kills late in the set by freshman opposite
Justin Panaia (Jamison, PA / Dock Mennonite) Cairn fell short once again, dropping the set 25-17.
Cairn returns to action on Tuesday February 17th when they host Ramapo College at 7 PM.
