Lancaster, PA – Cairn Outlasts Lancaster Bible College 91-87.
The Highlanders and the Chargers got off to a sloppy start offensively with the two teams combining for 4 turnovers in the first minute of play. Graduate guard
Jaylon Simpson (Atlanta, GA / Belmont Abbey) finally scored the game's first points on a fast break lay-up. Lancaster Bible College (16-5 / 8-1 UNITED EAST) bounced back from the slow start and built a 16-6 lead over the Highlanders. 5th year guard
Jonathan Desir (Feasterville, PA / Neshaminy) came off the bench and provided a quick 7 points to shrink the Charger lead to 23-17. From here sophomore guard
Andrew DaCosta (Bordentown, NJ / Bordentown Regional) took control of the game scoring 9 unanswered points on a trio of shots from beyond the arc. Cairn (16-6 / 8-2 UNITED EAST) held the lead until just over 2 minutes remaining in the first half when the Chargers retook the lead. With time winding down Simpson tipped in a missed Highlander shot to cut the Lancaster Bible lead down to 1. On the following possession Simpson blocked a Charger lay-up which led to a Highlander triple to send the gae to half time with Cain leading 38-36
Early in the second half the Chargers regained the lead and built a 6 point advantage over the Highlanders. Once again DaCosta stepped in to bring Cairn from behind sinking yet another 3-pointer and scoring a fast break lay-up. This burst from DaCosta set up Simpson to give Cairn the lead by connecting on a triple. This 3-pointer also pushed Simpson over 1000 points in his collegiate career. Over the next 2 minutes Simpson and DaCosta combined for 5 more 3-pointers to build a 9 point Highlander lead. Another 5 points from DaCosta and a flurry of Cairn free-throws iced the game, giving the Highlanders a 91-87 victory over Lancaster Bible.
Cairn will return home on Wednesday February 4 hosting Gallaudet University in the Mason Activity Center at 5 PM.
