Langhorne, PA - Cairn falls 3-1 in home opener against Widener.
Cairn (0-3 / 0-0 UNITED EAST) hosted the Pride of Widener University (1-0 / 0-0 MIDDLE ATLANTIC) for the home opener of their 2026 season. The first set went to Widener 25-14 giving them an early advantage. Cairn replied by taking a quick 7-3 lead in the second set. The Highlanders were able to ride the momentum of this quick start to a second set win, capping off the set with a kill by freshman opposite

The third set resembled the first, with the Pride controlling the majority of the set and winning 25-16. The fourth set was much closer with Cairn once again starting a set strong and taking a 3-0 lead to begin the set. Widener was able to close the gap and the set remained close eventually coming to a 17-17 tie. Widener rallied with 4 straight points which put the match out of reach. Junior outside hitter Sam Poirer (Nogyang, South Korea International Christian School Uijeongbu) tallied two late kills but the Highlanders were unable to swing the momentum and dropped the fourth set 25-20 and lost the match 3-1.
Cairn will return to action Saturday January 17th in a tri-match facing off with King's College and Kean University at King's College.
