WSOC: Highlanders Battle at Marywood

SCRANTON, PA – Cairn Women's Soccer went on the road Wednesday to face off against Marywood University ahead of this weekend's kickoff to conference play, dropping the game 3-0.

The game started out heavily in Marywood's (7-1) favor as the Pacers set the pace with a quick 5 shots before taking the lead off a penalty kick in the 24th minute. Following the goal, Cairn (1-5-1) had an open look in the 27th minute from junior midfielder Paige Noble (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Atlantic Christian) driving a shot low and to the left, but saved by the Pacers' goalkeeper. Marywood did not let off the gas, scoring another goal in the 32nd minute.

The second half kicked off with Marywood getting 3 corners in quick succession, but the Highlander defense held, keeping the ball away from the net. Noble was able to get off Cairn's 2nd shot of the game in the 73rd minute, but was unable to convert the opportunity. The Pacers pursued relentlessly, finding their 3rd goal of the night in the 79th minute, making it 3-0.

Cairn will host Penn College in the first United East match up of the season, this Saturday in Langhorne, PA at 3:30.
