GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- Highlander Soccer went on the road to face Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon, walking away with a 2-1 loss after a second half push.
Gwyneed Mercy (4-4) put the pressure on Cairn (1-3-1) with 13 shots in the first half while holding the Highlanders to only a single shot, taking a 2-0 lead into the second half. The Highlanders looked to push back though, starting the second half off strong with a goal in the 57th minute by sophomore defender
Macie Starr (Cleveland, TN / Walker Valley), assisted by classmate
Josey Smith (Levittown, PA / Pennsbury). Following that goal, the Griffins struggled to put a shot on goal with next shots off target. Smith had the opportunity to tie it in the 87th minute, but was unable to convert the opportunity.
Star gets her first goal of the season as Smith secures her fourth assist of the year.
Cairn continues on the road in their next game against Marywood University in Scranton on Wednesday night.
