BRYN ATHYN, PA – Cairn Men's Lacrosse came just up shy in their conference opener at Bryn Athyn Lions on Saturday, falling 10-7.
Cairn (0-8 / 0-1 UNITED EAST) got the scoring started in the first period with a goal from junior attacker
Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian), setting the tone for the Highlanders. Bryn Athyn (3-4-1 / 1-1 UNITED EAST) would then combat Heffler's goal with 4 unanswered, making the score 4-1 Lions through the openig minutes of the second. The Highalnders wouldn't go away though, scoring 3 straight, including another from Heffler, an unassisted goal from freshman attacker
Emanuel Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian), assisted by freshman defenseman
Elijah Haney (Stockholm, Sweden /Southern Lehigh), and the other goal by senior attacker
Jacob Lingerman (Goshen, NY / Goshen), assisted by Heffler to tie the game at 4 apiece.
The Lions would then score another before the second period ended, but sophomore midfielder
Luke Fowler (Landenberg, PA / Wilmington Chrisitan) would chime in on the stat sheet, scoring an unassisted goal in the third to get things started ahead of Lingerman adding two more goals in the third and fourth, thoughn it would not be enough as Bryn Athyn would hold the 10-7 advantage.
Lingerman and Heffler each finished with four points, Lingerman's on three goals and one assist and Heffler on two goals two assists.
The Highlanders continue their United East Conference play in a meeting against St. Mary's of Maryland at the Stillman Athletic Complex in Langhorne, PA on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
