BB: Highlanders Charge Past Chargers, 10-5

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Baseball took on Lancaster Bible College at home on Tuesday for the backend of their conference series, taking the game 10-5.
 
Senior right fielder Dylan Jackson (Levittown, PA / Chestnut Hill College) got things started with a leadoff single, scoring as junior catcher Zach Bauers (Cooper City, FL / Cooper City) flied out to right center. Cairn (21-12 / 9-4 UNITED EAST) added four more in the second, scoring as Jackson doubled, senior centerfielder Will Wikner (Gaithersburg, MD / Shenandoah University), Bauers, and sophomore designated hitter Andrew Holt (Sunrise, FL / New College of Florida) had RBI singles.
 
Lancaster Bible (17-18 / 7-7 UNITED EAST) scored two in the top of the third before adding another in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3. The Highlanders would rally for five runs in the bottom of the fourth as Jackson had his second double of the day to lead off the frame, scoring as senior first baseman Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) singled. Junior third baseman Ben Gagnon (Bethlehem, PA / Northampton CC) scored two with a single through the right side before freshman second baseman Gustavo Villegas (Plantation, FL / Plantation) doubled to score two more, now ahead 10-3.
 
The Chargers were able to scratch two runs across in the eighth with Cairn holding on for the 10-5 conference win.
 
Sophomore lefty Zachary Dennis (Midland Park, NJ / Midland Park) got the win (1-1) on 3.0 innings of scoreless work, allowing only three hits with six strikeouts. Jackson hit 3-6 on the day with three runs and an RBI while he and Villegas each had two doubles. Bauers also had a pair of hits with two RBI.
 
Cairn will host Centenary on Wednesday for a non-conference midweek game at 3:30 p.m.
