GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – Cairn Baseball won their game at Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday afternoon, 7-5.
Senior first baseman
Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) came up with an RBI single in the first, scoring classmate
Dylan Jackson (Levittown, PA / Chestnut Hill College). Gwynedd Mercy (10-20 / 1-8 ATLANTIC EAST) matched in the bottom half, scoring on a three-straight singles.
After two scoreless frames, the Griffins took the lead 4-1 on two hits in the fourth inning, stringing together a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. Cairn (18-11 / 7-3 UNITED EAST) took over control in the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits in the frame and a costly error to extend the lead to 6-4.
Junior catcher
Zach Bauers (Cooper City, FL / Cooper City) scored senior center fielder
Will Wikner (Gaithersburg, MD / Shenandoah University) with a single to add an insurance run. Gwynedd scored another run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-5 as senior reliever
Connor Ferguson (Laguna Niguel, CA / Capistrano Valley Christian School) continued to keep the Griffins' offense at bay, picking up the win (2-0) as he threw 5.2 innings of one-run baseball with three strikeouts.
Wiker, Warr, and Bauers each had three hits in the midweek contest, Warr with a pair of RBI and a run.
Cairn will host St. Elizabeth on Saturday for a conference doubleheader where the Highlanders will be the visiting team on their home field.
