LANGHORNE, PA – Baseball took on another tough assignment in #7 Salisbury on Tuesday, this time in a non-conference game which ended with a final score of 7-2 in favor of the Sea Gulls.
After a one, two, three first inning from both dugouts, Cairn (12-7 / 1-1 UNITED EAST) got the scoring started with an RBI single from senior outfielder
Tyler Harris (Oxford, PA / Oxford Area HS) to get the team going with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the fourth, Salisbury (19-5 / C2C) fired right back scoring a three-run homer down the right field line, making the score 3-1 after a single and a double to get some runners on base. Cairn would then go a one, two, three in the bottom of the fourth as Salisbury would not hesitate to add two more to the box score, making it 5-1.
Hoping to find some sort of rhythm going in the late frames, Cairn managed to put up another run with a junior third baseman
Ben Gagnon (Bethlehem, PA / Northampton CC) single to shortstop advancing to second on an error and bringing the run in from third. Salisbury would bring in one more run to make the score 6-2 final.
Harris had the lone RBI in the game as he, Warr, Gagnon and freshman outfielder
Stephen Persiani (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA / Capistrano Valley Christian) made up the Highlanders' four hits. Senior reliever
Connor Ferguson (Laguna Niguel, CA / Capistrano Valley Christian) pitched effectively in relief with a scoreless 1.2 innings pitched to close the game.
Cairn will look to get back on track in a United East Conference game against the Valley Forge Patriots on Wednesday at 3 pm.
