LAX: Purchase Takes Triple OT Battle from Cairn

HARRISON, NY - Cairn Lacrosse took on the Purchase College Panthers on Saturday, falling just short, with a 6-7 loss in triple overtime.

Senior Attackman Jacob Lingerman (Goshen, NY / Goshen) came scoring right out the gates with the only two goals for either team in the first, the former on an assist from junior attackman Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian). Heffler added an unassisted goal in the second to get Cairn (0-4 / UNITED EAST) ahead 3-0. The Panthers came right back with a pair of goals to narrow the lead to one ahead of the end of the second, with Lingerman scoring another goal on another assist from Heffler with four seconds left in the second to end the half with a score of 4-2.

Purchase answered, scoring a goal in the third and evening the score 4-4 right away into the fourth quarter until junior midfielder Adain Holliday (New York, NY / Urban Assembly Maker) scored midway through the fourth, with sophomore midfielder Luke Fowler (Landenberg, PA / Wilmington Christian) assisting to take back the lead 5-4. Purchase (1-3 / SKYLINE) scored back-to-back goals to take the lead late with four minutes to go but Cairn wouldn't go down without a fight, evening the score with eight seconds to play in regulation ad Fowler to make it 6-6, taking the game into overtime.
Singe and double overtime would both go without scores until the Panthers scored the golden goal to win 7-6 with just over a minute left in triple OT.

Lingerman finished with 3 goals, all in the first half as Heffler had 2 assists and a goal, totaling 3 points. Holliday and Fowler both found the net, scoring a goal each, along with a Fowler assist, ending with a 2 point day.

The Highlanders will be back on the road at Albertus Magnus on Tuesday.
