ABINGTON PA — The Highlanders went on the road Saturday to face Penn State Abington, which ended in a 2-0 win for the Nittany Lions.
Abington (3-6-1 / 1-1 UNITED EAST) started of hot, getting off the first shot of the game. Cairn (1-7-1 / 0-2 UNITED EAST) answered the pressure immediate with a shot on goal from junior midfielder
Paige Noble (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Atlantic Christian) but her efforts were saved by the Abington keeper. Abington took the pressure back by getting off the next seven shots before converting the first goal of the match in the 29th minute. They didn't stop there though, pushing to make it two goals, they managed to get off five more shots before half, but Cairn stood strong to keep it 1-0 to head into halftime.
The 2nd half started off even, with zero shots for the first 20 minutes, until Abington fired away, making the score 2-0 in the 69th minute. Cairn pushed back as Noble got one more chance at a goal in the 80th minute but was unable to convert. The match ended in a 2-0 win for Abington.
Cairn will head back on the road to Face Wilson College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Chambersburg.
