LANGHORNE, PA-- The Highlanders hosted Penn Sate Harrisburg on Wednesday, the Nittany Lions took a 4-0 win.
Cairn's (1-9-2, 0-4-1 United East) defense was tested early and it was tested hard as Penn State Harrisburg (10-5-2, 6-0 United East) had a strong offensive push, getting of an early five shots in the first 10 minutes of the match, making the break through and scoring in the 11th minute off of a penalty kick. They didn't stop there, the Nittany Lions looked for more as they got off another 4 shots in quick succession, but junior goalkeeperÂ
Rhian Erspamer (Valparaiso, IN / Victory Christian Academy) showed up with some big saves for the Highlanders to keep it 1-0. Harrisburg didn't back down though, as they sought to expand their lead, they would get off shot after shot, not giving up, but a strong defensive effort from the Cairn back line and goalkeeper, kept the game at 1-0 to end the half, with the Nittany Lions out shooting the Highlanders 16-0.
The second half started off similar to the first, as Penn State Harrisburg sought to be a scoring machine, they capitalized on the first chance they got, making it 2-0 in th 51st minute. Cairn took this personally and became more aggressive, not allowing Harrisburg to score on their next sevan chances. Erspamer came up clutch with 4 saves in those sevan chances, with the other three being off target. The Nitty Lions would not let up though as their third goal came in the 67th minute, making it 3-0. It didn't take long for them to find a forth in the 78th minute to make the game out of reach. The game ended with Harrisburg securing the 4-0 lead and out shooting Cairn 32-0.
The Highlanders will travel to St. Mary's City, Maryland to face off against the Seahawks of St. Mary's in another conference match up on October 18th at 5:30pm.
