LANGHORNE, PA-- Highlanders hosted the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, taking a 2-0 loss.
Penn State Harrisburg (5-6-2, 3-0-1 United East) wasted no time in applying the pressure on Cairn (3-7-3, 2-2-1 United East), starting the game with 4 unanswered shots in the first 10 minutes of the match. Cairn said that was enough and applied the defensive effort and kept the Nittany Lions from getting a single shot for the next 18 minutes. In the 29th minute of the match, the Nittany Lions broke the stalemate with a goal, making it 1-0. That was all for the Nittany Lions as Cairn sought to equalize with two shots by junior forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool), but he was unable to convert the chances in the 36th and 39th minutes. The half ended in a 1-0 lead for Harrisburg.
The second half started with Cairn getting off the first two shots in the 55th and 62nd by freshman forward
Zane Wheeler (Addison, NY / Addison Central) and Miller, but the score stayed 1-0. The next 11 minutes consisted of back and forth action with zero shots until Harrisburg got a shot off, but it sailed high, keeping the score at only 1-0. Cairn responds immediately with pressure, when graduate student
Matthews Lungu (Lilongwe, Malawi / African Bible College – Malawi) got a shot off but the Harrisburg goalkeeper made the save. Followed with a goal as Harrisburg capitalized on an opportunity in the 82nd minute, making the score 2-0. Miller would get two more chances on goal in the 87th and 89th minutes, but both shots were blocked. The game ending in a 2-0 win for Penn State Harrisburg.
The Highlanders will head on the road next to face St. Mary's on Saturday at 3pm in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
