LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Men's Soccer team hosted Ramapo College on a rainy Saturday evening in Langhorne, dropping their first match of the young season, 2-1.
Ramapo (2-1) found the back of the next first on the first shot of the game, scoring three minutes into the match to go ahead 1-0 on a direct free kick. Senior
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) took Cairn's (1-1-1) first shot, saved and deflected out for a Highlander corner kick. Getting the ball back into the box, Brittain had another open look and made the most of it, tying the game in the 24
th minute for his conference-leading third goal of the season, assisted by senior midfielder
Caleb Rudloff (Quakertown, PA / Geneva College). With things tied up, both squads strategized their plan of attack at the break in the action at halftime.
Opening up the second half was six consecutive corner kicks for the Roadrunners before scoring the go-ahead goal in the 58
th minute. Cairn continued to play physically, passing for an open look which they got four of for the remaining 32 minutes as Ramapo took a 2-1 victory on the road.
The Roadrunners outshot Cairn by a 12-10 margin despite the Highlanders having six shots on goal to Ramapo's five.
Cairn will look to bounce back as they host Delaware Valley University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
