WSOC: Cairn Draws with Gwynedd Mercy in Season Opener

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Soccer opened their season with Gwynedd Mercy, ending the match in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes of play.

Gwynedd Mercy (1-0-1) took the lead in the fifth minute of play on their second shot of the game, forcing the Highlanders to craft a response. Cairn (0-0-1) managed three quick shots on ensuing possessions but both squads came up empty for the remainder of the half, despite the Highlanders outshooting Gwynedd Mercy 11-5.

Out of the break, Cairn was awarded a corner kick in the 52nd minute, taken by sophomore forward Ella Quince (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville) who assisted sophomore midfielder Paige Noble (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Atlantic Christian) for the Highlanders' first goal of the season to tie the match. The Griffins responded right away, taking the lead back just three minutes later. While the nets were still open, freshman forward Juliana Condurso (Brick, NJ / Calvary Academy) netted her first collegiate goal as the equalizer. Condurso and Noble would get another look each down the stretch as the Griffins gave a final attack of four shots in the closing minutes from four corner kicks. Sophomore midfielder Abby Salmon (Langhorne, PA / Calvary Christian) and Quince would take the final shots of the night in attempt to sway the result but were of no avail.

Noble and Condurso each netted their first goals on the season with an assist to Quince on the former. The Highlanders outshot Gwynedd Mercy 18-10 (8-4).

Cairn Women's Soccer gears up for their upcoming road trip including Centenary University on Saturday morning and Delaware Valley on Wednesday.
