MSOC: Smith Scores to Force Come From Behind Draw with FDU-Florham

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Men's Soccer hosted FDU-Florham for their final home matchup before conference play begins, coming from behind to force a 2-2 draw with the Devils on Saturday night.

Both squads went scoreless through the first half, taking until the second frame to get the scoring underway. Freshman defender Emanuel Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) put Cairn (2-2-3) on the board in the 53rd minute, scoring on a header off a Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Twp.) free kick set up beyond midfield, credit Beers with the assist. FDU-Florham (6-1-1) answered back two-fold, scoring the game-tying goal in the 66th minute and the go-ahead goal a minute later to go ahead 2-1.

Time ticked down on the Highlanders' comeback efforts until they were awarded another free kick, this time about thirty feet outside the box, which Beers would take again. Beers fired the ball through to graduate forward Kingsley Okoi (Atlanta, GA / Clarks Summit University) who tapped it to sophomore defender Toby Smith (Attleboro, MA / Homeschool) for the equalizer in the 89th minute. Cairn would hold strong on defense, not allowing another shot for FDU-Florham and force the 2-2 draw.

Lazor and Smith each tallied goals on the night, Lazor's second of the year and Smith's first. Beers earned a pair of assists, moving him into shared possession of the conference lead in assists (3). Okoi picked up his first assist of the season.

Cairn matches up with Eastern University on the road, Tuesday, before hosting the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday for both Homecoming and their conference opener at 3:30 p.m.
