LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Soccer welcomed conference foe, Wilson, to Langhorne on Saturday evening for a non-conference rematch, falling just short in their comeback effort, 3-2.
Sophomore
Paige Noble (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Atlantic Christian) started the scoring in the 6
th minute with her second goal of the season to put Cairn (0-3-1) ahead early. The Phoenix answered back shortly after to tie the match at one apiece (11'), holding the stalemate through the first half.
In the second, Wilson (5-0-1) went ahead with a goal in the 54
th minute and added to the lead in the 75
th, finding themselves ahead 3-1. Freshman forward
Juliana Condurso (Brick, NJ / Calvary Academy) would give the Highlanders some hope as Noble took a free kick from outside the box to Condurso, assisting her as she finished off her second goal of the year with a shot off the knee past the goalie. Freshman forward
Josey Smith (Levittown, PA / Pennsbury) took the final shot for the Highlanders with two minutes to play as it was saved along with Wilson's 3-2 win.
Noble finished with a goal and assist for three points along with a goal from Condurso. Wilson outshot the Highlanders 16-13 but Cairn held the advantage in shots on goal, 8-7.
The Highlanders will regroup this week before matchup with the Montclair State Red Hawks on Friday night in North Jersey leading to a final non-conference tune up with Marywood at home on September 25 ahead of their conference opener with Notre Dame (MD).
