BALTIMORE, MD – The Cairn University Men's Soccer team opened their season on the road Friday night in Maryland as they were hosted by the Gophers of Goucher College of the Landmark Conference.
Goucher (0-0-1) opened play with two quick shots before senior forward
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) opened fire on goal, netting his first goal of the season in the 20
th minute to put Cairn (0-0-1) by one early in the match, assisted by sophomore forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool). The Highlanders would outshoot Goucher 9-5 in shots in the first half with all fourteen shots coming up empty with Cairn ahead 1-0 at the break.
The Gophers tied the game only thirteen minutes into the second half. Brittain attempted an answer on the Highlanders' ensuing possession before his shot was saved. Cairn managed only three shots in the remainder of the match, holding Goucher to a single look at goal.
The Highlanders outshot Goucher 15-9 in shots and 8-5 in shots on goal. Brittain's goal moved him into shared possession of eighth in career points (95) as the Highlander opened their season with a draw.
Cairn will host Arcadia at home on Wednesday, September 4
th for their home opener at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Cairn Women's Soccer season opener against Gwynedd Mercy in the nightcap at 7:00 p.m.
