KING OF PRUSSIA, PA – The Cairn University Baseball team completed the three game sweep of Rosemont, Sunday night, holding off the Ravens in a high-scoring 15-7 win under the lights.
The Highlanders got rolling in the first inning, scoring junior outfielder
Will Wikner (Gaithersburg, MD / Shenandoah University) on an error and fifth year second baseman
Joe Greenwood (Wall, NJ / Calvary Academy) driving in junior first baseman
Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy). Cairn (13-11 / 8-4 UNITED EAST SKYE DIVISION) added five more in the second as freshman centerfielder
Zachary Johnson (Hawaii Kai, HI / TCS Post Grad) scored on a wild pitch, Warr singled and scored classmate
Dylan Jackson (Levittown, PA / Chestnut Hill College), Greenwood brought Warr around to score again on a single, sophomore catcher
Zach Bauers (Cooper City, FL / Cooper City) scored on a wild pitch, and fifth year third baseman
Sam Spadea (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) doubled to score Greenwood, the Highlanders ahead 7-0.
Rosemont (7-17 / 5-6 UNITED EAST SKYE DIVISION) got on the board in the bottom of the second on a solo homerun. In the fifth, Jackson led off with a walk and was driven in by Warr with a single. Bauers was hit by a pitch and Greenwood walked to load the bases, putting pressure on the defense and leading to Warr scoring on a wild pitch. The Highlanders added three more insurance runs, one each in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. Rosemont stayed afloat with two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings
Junior lefty
Brett Bottinger (Plymouth Meeting, PA / Chestnut Hill College) got the start, pitching 4.0 innings strong with a single earned run for the no decision. Classmate
Ronaldinho Alcin (Miami, FL / North Miami Beach SHS) pitched scoreless two innings in relief, collecting 5 strikeouts to reach 100 career strikeouts, the latest Highlander pitcher since Carson Conradt ('22) reached the 100 strikeout mark in 2021. Alcin (1-2) also picked up the win as he pitched effectively with no hits allowed.
On the offensive side, Warr went 4-4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI, leading the Highlander lineup. Wikner, Bauers, Greenwood, and Johnson had two hits apiece, Wikner & Greenwood also adding a pair of RBI each.
The Highlanders have a busy week ahead as they host the Centenary Cyclones for their annual non-conference matchup before heading to Aston to take on the Neumann Knights on Tuesday. Conference play continues on the weekend with Saint Elizabeth.
