BB: Jackson & Greenwood Power Highlanders Over St. Elizabeth

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Baseball hosted Saint Elizabeth for games two and three of their Skye Division series on Saturday, taking both games in high scoring fashion, 16-1 and 17-12.

GAME ONE
Saint Elizabeth (8-18 / 4-9 UNITED EAST SKYE DIVISION) was first to score in the top of the first as they led off with a single to center and scored on a sacrifice fly. Cairn (17-12 / 11-4 UNITED EAST SKYE DIVISON) answered right back as freshman centerfielder Zachary Johnson (Hawaii Kai, HI / TCS Post Grad) and junior right fielder Dylan Jackson (Levittown, PA / Chestnut Hill College) were hit by a pitch to lead off the game. Junior first baseman Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) drove in Johnson with a ground ball to the right side to tie things up.

As the Highlanders got around through the order again in the second, fifth year designated hitter Tyler Fox (Boyertown, PA / West-Mont Christian Academy) would be plunked with two outs and scored by a triple from the speedy Johnson. Jackson walked, putting runners at the corners for Warr to drive in Johnson and end up at second via a throwing error, Jackson scoring on the play to put Cairn up 4-1. Junior left fielder Will Wikner (Gaithersburg, MD / Shenandoah University) tripled in the third after fifth year second baseman Joe Greenwood (Wall, NJ / Calvary Academy) led off with a single and scored via Wikner.

Cairn added a four spot in the fourth with a leadoff double from Warr and sophomore catcher Zach Bauers (Cooper City, FL / Cooper City) reaching on an error for fifth year third baseman Sam Spadea (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) to deliver two runs on a single down the right field line. Wikner reached on a walk and was driven in, along with Spadea, on a 2 RBI single from Fox, Cairn now ahead 9-1.

The Highlanders added four more in the fifth as Jackson was hit for the second time and scored on a fielding error on Bauers' ball in play. Greenwood and Spadea doubled back-to-back to manufacture two runs as Spadea came in on a single from freshman shortstop Nathan Schurga (Wilmington, DE / Conrad Schools of Science).

Jackson got revenge for his bruises with a solo shot in the sixth. Greenwood drove in another run with a single and Spadea capped off the scoring for the game with a sacrifice fly which scored Bauers for a final score of 16-1.

GAME TWO
The Eagles were first to score in game two as well, getting one on the board with two singles. Johnson led off the bottom half with his second triple of the day and was scored by a Jackson single. Greenwood found his power swing for a two-run shot to put Cairn up 3-1.

It was all St. E's in the second, third, and top of the fourth as the Eagles ran ahead 10-3. The Highlanders wouldn't be held silent as they cut the lead to one in the bottom half, highlighted by a three-run home run from Bauers, his first of the year. Cairn took the lead in the fifth with Greenwood beating out an infield single to keep the inning alive and score Jackson. Spadea singled next, scoring Warr to go ahead 11-10.

The Highlanders added four more in the sixth with Fox getting hit by a pitch and Johnson singling up the middle. Jackson scored both of them on a triple before Warr homered for two runs. Jackson had his second homer of the day in the seventh to put his team ahead 17-10.

Saint Elizabeth would scratch across a run in each of the eighth and ninth innings but it wasn't enough as Cairn took the game 17-12 and the series sweep.
