BB: Cairn Falls to Ramapo in Midweek Matchup

MAHWAH, PA – The Cairn Baseball team took on the Ramapo College Roadrunners in North Jersey, dropping their non-conference matchup 21-8.
 
NOTABLES
  • Senior right handed pitcher Eli Schooley (Horseheads, NY / Horseheads) recorded his first collegiate hit, a single to center field.
  • Junior first baseman Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy), sophomore catcher Zach Bauers (Cooper City, FL / Cooper City), and freshmen Zachary Dennis (Midland Park, NJ / Midland Park), Jay Sariano (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy), and Donald Kennedy (Cincinnati, OH / Bethel-Tate) each collected a hit.
  • Dennis had a team-high 2 RBI.
  • Freshman righty Jack Wright (Telford, PA / Souderton) pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief followed by redshirt junior Connor Ferguson (Laguna Niguel, CA / Capistrano Valley Christian) who pitched a scoreless inning.
 
SCORING PLAYS
  • In the fourth, Sariano led off with a walk as he was moved into scoring position by a ground ball and balk. Junior outfielder Tyler Harris (Oxford, PA / Oxford) walked to put runners at the corners as Dennis drove both baserunners in to put the Highlanders on the board with a 2-run double.
  • In the fifth, freshman outfielders Zachary Johnson (Hawaii Kai, HI / TCS Post Grad) and James Wtulich (Vernon, NJ / Vernon Twp.) walked to lead off the inning and got into scoring position advancing on a passed ball. Warr walked to load the bases as Harris and fifth year third baseman Sam Spadea (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) walked in two runs.
  • Kennedy singled to center in the sixth followed by Wtulich who walked. Warr drove in Kennedy on an RBI single as Sariano walked to load the bases. Sophomore second baseman Naaji Brown (Washington, D.C. / Riverdale Baptist) and freshman catcher Daniel Tapp (Baltimore, MD / Boys Latin School of Maryland) each picked up an RBI as they walked in a run apiece.
  • Sariano led off the eighth with a double to right center, moving over to third on the next play and scoring as Spadea put the ball in play and reached on an error.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
  • Penn State – Abington of the United East Volt Division comes to Langhorne on Wednesday for two games before Cairn's weekend series with Clarks Summit.
