MLAX: Lacrosse Drops Nonconference Bout With Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Cairn University Men's Lacrosse team crossed divisions to take on the Tigers of Division II Holy Family University, dropping the matchup 10-4.
 
NOTABLES
  • Four Highlanders shared the wealth in the scoring column with a goal each from senior midfielder Chaz Cotton (Newburgh, NY / Newburgh Free Academy), classmate Jonathan Balsamo (Long Island, NY / Eastport South Manor), junior attacker Jason Briant (Lake Hiawatha, NJ / Morris Catholic), and sophomore attacker Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian).
  • Balsamo also had an assist along with sophomore face off/midfielder Adain Holliday (New York, NY / Urban Assembly Maker Academy) and freshman midfielder Luke Fowler (Landenberg, PA / Wilmington Christian).
  • Holliday picked up a game-high 15 ground balls and sophomore defender Nicholas Kennedy (Hudson Valley, NY / Goshen Central) had 8 caused turnovers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holy Family (2-6 / 0-1 CACC) took the lead out of the gate with Briant and Cairn (2-5) responding right back to tie things up.
  • The Tigers scored with five to play in the first, prompting Heffler to find the goal to tie things a two apiece in the closing minutes.
  • The second quarter was all Holy Family as the Tigers scored three unanswered to go ahead 5-2 at the half.
  • Out of the break, the Tigers added another before Cotton put the third goal for the Highlanders on the board.
  • Holy Family made two quick goals to add to their cushion of a lead. Balsamo answered at the end of the third to cut the lead to 8-4.
  • The Tigers would have the last word, scoring a pair in the fourth to end the game by a final score of 10-4.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
  • The Highlanders get a short break before opening up United East conference play at Penn College on March 30 at 1 p.m.
