ROSEMONT, PA – The Cairn University Men's Basketball closed out Saturday afternoon with a 71-68 win, kicking off February with a Skye Division win over the Rosemont Ravens.
Senior guard
Aytor Alberto (Willemstad, Curraçao / Clarks Summit University) got things started with a three for Cairn (13-9 / 7-5 United East Skye Division) as well as a jumper before senior forward
Derian Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge) took over with four points on the fast break for an 11-4 lead. Rosemont (4-18 / 3-9 United East Skye Division) took the lead on a pair of threes and a dunk, running ahead to an eleven point lead, 29-18. Alberto would be fouled in the act of shooting, knocking down a pair of free throws to stop the bleeding and beginning a run of 13 unanswered points to close the half in which Alberto, junior guard
Christian Rivera (Cayey, Puerto Rico / Central Bucks East), and sophomore guard
Moses Ilodigwe (Wilmington, DE / Lycoming College) all splashed a three, leading by two at the half.
Alberto continued his sharpshooting out of the gate in the second half, knocking down 4 three pointers in the span of five minutes, interrupted by a layup by Bradford, providing a 46-34 lead to his squad. Ilodigwe wanted in on the fun, hitting a pair of threes of his own, garnering a 12 point lead. Rosemont soared back to tie the game 60-60 with four minutes to play. Rivera splashed two free throws to take a quick lead back, Bradford pushing back to the Ravens' response with a three. Rivera assisted Alberto on a jump shot in the paint to steal the lead back, 69-68. Rosemont fouled Rivera, putting him on the line for a one-and-one situation as he hit both shots to put the Highlanders up three. Rosemont would get off two looks from behind the arc, neither of which found the net as Cairn took the game, 71-68.
Alberto made six threes on the day, same as their last matchup with Rosemont, scoring 31 points. Bradford scored 13, including a three, with four steals. Rivera was also in double figured with 11, dropping seven assists with a three as well. Cairn made the most of points off turnovers, outscoring Rosemont 28-13 while the Ravens ran the fast break 20-12.
