MVB: Highlanders Swept by Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA – The Cairn Men's Volleyball team traveled over to Arcadia on Wednesday night, taking on the Knights in a MAC/United East crossover matchup, dropping the match 3-0.

NOTABLES:
  • Senior opposite hitter Joe Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / International Christian School Uijeongbu) led the way with 10 kills followed by freshman outside hitter Sam Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / International Christian School Uijeongbu) with 8 kills and an ace.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Arcadia (8-5) got underway with the lead, keeping the Highlanders in the rear-view mirror. Sam Poirier and sophomore setter Josh Adler (Levittown, PA / Neshaminy) put up a kill and a block, respectively, to cut the lead to two. The Knights would pull away, taking the first set 25-16.
  • In set two, Cairn (1-10) grabbed the lead out of the gate, scoring on a kill from graduate middle hitter Jake Tolar (Fort Mill, SC / Nation Ford), assisted by Adler who then added an ace.
  • Arcadia tied things up, trading serves back and forth before the Knights went ahead 9-7. An error by Arcadia and kill from S. Poirier quickly tied things up.
  • With the Knights running ahead again, Cairn fought back to within one point, Adler and S. Poirier adding a kill each to keep things close before Arcadia took the set 25-17.
  • Tolar made an early kill and ace in the third set as the Highlanders found themselves ahead 6-3. While pushing for a comeback, Arcadia tied things up at 12-12.
  • J. Poirier put up two more kills, split between a kill from junior middle hitter Tommy Ragonese (Buffalo, NY / Royalton-Hartland High School) to take the lead back as Arcadia went up 14-13, Poirier tying things up again at 19-19 as Arcadia continued to push.
  • The Knights would two late kills, taking the decisive third set, 25-21.
