MLAX: Late Push Propels Aggies Over Highlanders

LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Men's Lacrosse team hosted the Aggies of Delaware Valley University on a rainy Wednesday night. Despite the Highlanders cutting the lead, the Aggies pulled away late, taking a 15-5 victory.

Delaware Valley (2-0) led at the end of the first quarter, scoring two goals in the last five minutes of play. Sophomore attacker Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian) got things started with a goal early in the second quarter, scoring just 45 seconds into play. The Aggies responded with a pair of goals just a few minutes later, adding a third to put the lead to 5-1. Heffler scored again for Cairn (0-2), assisted by sophomore midfielder Adain Holliday (New York, NY / Urban Assembly Maker Academy). DelVal answered making the score 6-2 on the way to halftime. Heffler added a third goal with eleven seconds remaining in the half, assisted by senior midfielder Chaz Cotton (Newburgh, NY / Newburgh Free Academy), cutting the deficit in half, 6-3.

Sophomore midfielder Ole Perter Nyilinkindi (New York, NY / Grimsley HS) kicked off the second half with a goal, assisted by Cotton as well before the Aggies responded with another. Junior attacker Jason Briant (Lake Hiawatha, NJ / Morris Catholic) scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Heffler, making the DelVal lead only 7-5. The Aggies closed the third quarter adding the goal they lost right back. In the fourth quarter, Delaware Valley would score seven unanswered goals to take the game, 15-5.

Heffler was the top Highlander scorer, netting a hat trick along with an assist on six shots on goal. Briant and Nyilinkindi each added a goal. Cotton tallied a pair of assists.
