MSOC: Brittain Ties Single Game Points Record, Lifting Highlanders Over Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, PA – Cairn Men's Men's Soccer headed down the road to Bryn Athyn College, facing off with the Lions in conference action leading to a 5-1 Highlander victory.

Fifth year forward Geon Smallwood (Galloway, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) got the Highlanders started wit a goal just under nine minutes into the match, assisted by senior forward Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy). Brittain would then score a goal of his own, assisted by classmate Caleb Rudloff (Quakertown, PA / Geneva College) to go ahead 2-0. Bryn Athyn (1-8-1 / 0-4 UNITED EAST) responded soon after with a goal, turning out to be their only score of the night. Brittain then took over for Cairn (6-2-4 / 4-0 UNITED EAST) with his second goal of the night in the 30th minute, assisted by classmate Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Twp.), taking a 3-1 lead into the break.

Out of the gate in the second half, Brittain secured the hat trick in the 50th minute, assisted again by Beers, and scored a fourth in the 59th minute, his second 4-goal game (September 4, 2021) performance of his career, the fifth time he has scored three or more goals in a single game. The Highlander defense kept Bryn Athyn quiet for the rest of the match as Cairn continued their undefeated run through conference play.

Brittain, the defending United East Offensive Player of the Week, finished with four goals and an assist for nine points, tying Derek Mosely & Phil Haas' program record for most points in a single game. Smallwood also scored while Beers was credited with two assists and Rudloff one on the night. Cairn outshot the Lions 21-1, holding Bryn Athyn without a shot in the second half.

Cairn will host Gwynedd Mercy on Friday night for a break in conference play before starting the second half of United East play with Rosemont on Wednesday.
