LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Men's Soccer played host to the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins, winning the non-conference matchup, 3-1.
Sophomore forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) kicked things off with a goal in the 14
th minute, his fourth of the season. Then, ten minutes later, the graduate students,
Matt Lungu (Lilongwe, Malawi / African Bible College – Malawi) and
Kingsley Okoi (Atlanta, GA / Clarks Summit University) teamed up for the would-be game winner, Okoi assisting Lungu (24'). Cairn (7-2-4 / 4-0 United East) held the Griffins to a single shot in the first half while they took seventeen.
Miller fired away at goal, netting his second of the game in in the 58
th minute, putting the Highlanders ahead 3-0. Gwyndd Mercy (2-13-1 / 0-2 Atlantic East) broke up the shutout in the final seconds as Cairn held on for a 3-1 victory.
With the ball in Cairn's offensive midfield for most of the game, the Griffins were held to only six shots, one on goal, for the match while Cairn took 25. Senior goalkeeper
Chris Eelman (North Haledon, NJ / Hawthorne Christian) held the Griffins scoreless in his 81 minutes of work.
Cairn resumed conference play on the road at Rosemont College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
