LANGHORNE, PA – Director of Athletics David Babb and the Cairn University Athletic Department are proud to welcome Brigid Shehan '15 and
Gregg Fanus '04 into the prestigious Cairn Athletics Hall of Honor, made official during the 2024 induction ceremony on the afternoon of Homecoming, Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Brigid Shehan '15
Brigid was a three-sport athlete for the PBU Crimson Eagles (now Cairn Highlanders) as a standout player in Women's Volleyball and Softball for four years in addition to two seasons of Women's Basketball. In 96 matches played, Brigid accumulated over 1,000 career kills and points (3
rd all-time) and is the program record holder with 1,414 career digs, earning her 1
st Team All-Colonial States Athletics Conference First Team honors in 2013 & 2014. Nationally, she was named 1
st Team NCCAA East Region for her sophomore through senior seasons and a 2
nd Team NCCAA Division II All-American in 2012 & 2013, reaching the NCCAA National Tournament three times in her career.
In softball, Shehan was a .357 career hitter (9
th all-time), getting on base at a rate of .439 (4th all-time), with the second-most home runs (6) in program history and most career RBI (104) while starting in all 146 games played.
She led her teams to four CSAC 3D Team Award, recognizing the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate". Academically, she was named to the CSAC All-Academic

team for her entire career in the fall and spring semesters as well as a NCCAA All-American Scholar Athlete in 2013 & 2014.
At the annual athletic department awards, Shehan was named Co-Most Valuable Player in 2012 and Most Valuable Player in 2014 in Volleyball, and Most Valuable Player for Softball in 2013 & 2015 in addition to the Highlander Award in 2015. As a senior, Shehan received recognition as the winner of both the Clarence E. Mason Award for Athletic Excellence (recognizing a senior student-athlete who has made the greatest contribution to their athletic programs through a high level of competition, leadership, and sportsmanship.) and Martha MacCullough Award for Athletic Recognition (senior student-athlete who by her outstanding athletic achievements over multiple seasons, has brought the highest level of regional and national attention to their athletic program.)
Since graduating, Shehan has been teaching Health and Physical Education at Collegium Charter High School in Exton, PA since 2016 (in her 9
th year) and is also privileged to be the volleyball and softball varsity head coach there. This school year a student of hers and Shehan started a Bible Club called BLAST which is based off of the theme of Matthew 5:13-16 (Being Light and Salt Together).
She remarked the following on her induction: "Being inducted into the Hall of Honor is such an amazing privilege! I remember being a prospective student-athlete and seeing the plaques of the previous inductees on a visitation day. I was incredibly impressed by their accomplishments and dedication to playing sports at PCB/PBU/Cairn… As an athlete at Cairn, I really loved the opportunity to play at a competitive level in several sports all while learning about how to remember that God is the giver of our talents…To be recognized as someone who contributed in the same way as those previous members is a true honor! I am also incredibly honored to be inducted alongside of my former professor, Mr. Fanus!! He really inspired me by his support of the athletics program and the overall mission of Cairn University through his attendance at many athletic events."
Gregg Fanus '04
Gregg Fanus was also a three-sport athlete over his time at Cairn (then PBU), playing four seasons of Men's Soccer, three seasons of Men's Basketball, and two seasons of Men's Tennis.
In soccer, Gregg was an NCCAA All-American, National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas All-American, a 3x conference champion, and NCCAA National Runner Up. Fanus was named to the Cairn Men's Soccer 2000s All-Decade First Team in 2021, it was described by current Cairn Men's Soccer Head Coach
Luke Gibson about Gregg that "there isn't a player who lined up with him that could undervalue his importance to the team. Fanus was an NCCAA Second Team All-American and a was selected to two NCCAA All-Tournament Teams. A centerback that made everything look easier than it was, he brought a steadiness to teams that was unrivaled.
In three seasons of Men's Basketball, Fanus was an NCCAA National Runner-Up and NCCAA All-American Honorable Mention. He sits 9
th all-time for career assists in program history with 235, including 133 in 2002-03 which is the 8
th most all-time in a single season.
After his years as a student-athlete, Fanus was named an Associate Athletic Director over Athletics Ministry and Outreach. Since then, Gregg has served as the Faculty Advisor for HPEC (Future Professionals in Health & Physical Education) and Assistant Professor in the Cairn School of Education. He is also the Program Director of KidSport and current Head Coach of Cairn's Men's & Women's Tennis programs, for which he was named the 2024 United East Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.
Off campus, Fanus takes pride in coaching his 3 kids' teams with the Langhorne Athletic Association & Lower Southampton American Legion Baseball. He is also a private instructor for tennis & pickleball. He and his wife Ashley (Cairn Women's soccer alum) have faithfully served and Living Hope Church for the past 21 years and counting, involved

as a men's ministry leader, small group leader, and Sunday School teacher.
"I am incredibly honored to be nominated for this recognition into the Cairn Athletics Hall of Honor. It is humbling as I reflect on all my teammates who are Inducted in the hall of honor and many of my teammates who are deserving but not yet recognized." Gregg remarked, "I am truly grateful for how God has used my athletics experiences here at Cairn to shape and prepare me to be used by Him to share the Gospel and disciple others for His glory and His Kingdom. I would like to thank my coaches, Dr. Beach, Helen Hui and Tom Fink as well as the many teammates who invested in me on the field but more importantly in my relationship with Christ and spiritual maturity. To God be the Glory!"
The Cairn University Athletics Hall of Honor was established in 1982 to provide a lasting memorial bringing recognition and honor to former student-athletes, coaches, staff members, teams and those who have brought distinction to Cairn University Athletics. Inductees are commemorated for their outstanding contributions to Highlander Athletics as well as their character during competition and in the fulfillment of Cairn University's mission, to educate students to serve Christ in the church, society, and the world as biblically minded, well-educated, and professionally competent men and women of character.
