Women's Soccer: Highlanders Fall in Season Opener with Lancaster Bible College

LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Women's Soccer team faced the Lancaster Bible College Chargers on a hot and humid Tuesday night in Langhorne. The Highlanders kept the game close throughout, despite falling 2-0 in their season opener.

The defense for Cairn (0-1) came out strong, with senior goalkeeper Isabelle Portis (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian High School) saving all eight of the Chargers' shots on goal in the first half, closing the period tied up at 0-0. Lancaster Bible College (3-0) managed to find the back of the net in the 61st and 72nd minutes as the Highlanders looked to mount a comeback. Sophomore forward Victoria Vega (Branchburg, NJ / Timothy Christian School) came close with a shot just over the net as Cairn's battle came to a close with a score of 2-0.

The Highlanders managed two shots, one by senior midfielder Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) and the other by Vega. Portis finished with a total of 10 saves.

The Highlanders face off against the Aggies of Delaware Valley University on Thursday, September 7th, at 7PM on their home turf.
