Women's Soccer: Highlanders Cruise Past Defenders, 7-0

LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn Women's Soccer team hosted Clarks Summit University on Homecoming, Saturday, as they handedly defeated the Defenders, shutting them out 7-0.

The scoring action for Cairn (2-3-2 / 1-0-1 United East Skye Division) got underway early as senior midfielder Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) netter her second goal of the season, assisted by senior forward Johanna Shaw (Melrose Park, PA / Phil-Mont Christian), in the 8th minute. Shaw scored a goal of her own in the 21st minute, assisted by senior midfielder Micaela Prate (Huntington Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy). Graduate defender Rachel Yoder (Telford, PA / Souderton) didn't hesitate to put the Highlanders up 3-0, scoring a goal off of a free kick about thirty feet outside the box in the 23rd minute. Prate added to the Cairn lead in the 30th minute, assisted by Marzinke, as the half closed with the Highlanders up 4-0.

The second half got underway in the same way as the first, as sophomore forward Victoria Vega (Branchburg, NJ / Timothy Christian) netted back-to-back goals in 47th and 49th minutes, the latter assisted by Shaw. Clarks Summit (0-6 / 0-2 United East Skye Division) would find an open look at goal, but the shot was saved by senior goalkeeper Isabelle Portis (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian High School). The final punch would be another goal from Yoder in the 69th minute as the match closed in a 7-0 shutout.

Cairn would outshoot the Defenders 34-3, with the Highlanders taking 21 shots on goal to Clarks Summit's two. Yoder and Vega each recorded two goals followed by Prate, Marzinke, and Shaw with one apiece. Portis and sophomore goalkeeper Emilee Doran (Langhorne, PA / Bucks County Community College) each had a save in the combined shutout as the Highlanders remain undefeated in United East Skye Division play.

Cairn Women's Soccer heads to Phoenixville to take on Valley Forge on Wedneday afternoon for another United East Skye Division matchup at 3:30 p.m.
