LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Men's Soccer team hosted the Eagles of Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday, the closing act of the full slate of Homecoming action, as the Highlanders battled to a 0-0 draw to open up United East Skye Division play.
Cairn (2-5-3 / 0-0-1 United East Skye Division) opened play with an early scoring opportunity by freshman forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) the just missed above the net. The Highlanders and Saint Elizabeth (7-1-2 / 1-0-1 United East Skye Division) would play with physicality, each trading off shots on open looks as the first half closed 0-0, with each team taking 8 shots. The second period action was similar to the first, although the Highlander defense was in full force, allowing only one shot in the second half by the Eagles. Miller and junior forward
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) would look to score in the closing minutes of play, but were held off as the match closed in a 0-0 draw.
Cairn held the slight advantage in shots, 12-9, while only allowing one shot in the second half from the Eagles and one shot on goal all day. Miller led the Highlanders with six shots along with two from Brittain. Freshman goalkeeper
Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill High School) got the start in the conference opener, recording one save in the complete game shutout.
Cairn Men's Soccer continues United East Skye Division play at home on Tuesday, hosting Keystone College at 7 p.m.
