LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Men's Soccer team hosted the Giants of Keystone College on Tuesday night, looking for their first conference win of the season. The Highlanders would go on to defeat the Giants 4-1 in regulation.
Keystone (0-10-1) looked to make a statement early, as the Giants found an open look just a minute into play. Cairn (3-5-3) would look to get on the board themselves as the teams traded shots through most of the first half as halftime neared with the score still tied. Junior midfielder
Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) would get on the Highlanders on the board first, scoring on a low free kick rolling through the bottom left corner of the goal in the 41st minute. Keystone would have an answer less than two minutes later, knotting things back up at 1-1 as the match went to halftime. Cairn would come out of the break with stamina, playing fast as freshman defender
Toby Smith (Attleboro, MA / Homeschool) would provide the spark to begin putting the match away, netting his 2nd goal of the season in the 48th minute, assisted by senior midfielder
Ben Noble (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Atlantic Christian School), as Noble's drive through the middle of the box would then set up Smith with an open look coming from the right. Smith would facilitate the scoring again, pushing up the right side and assisting with a cross on Beers' 2nd goal of the game in the 73rd minute, . Beers then put the match away in the 83rd minute from the edge of the box, this time assisted by junior midfielder
Chase Segool (Aston Township, PA / Sun Valley). Cairn would collect their first conference victory as the final whistle sounded with the final score in favor of the Highlanders, 4-1.
Beers was a seemingly unstoppable force on the Highlander attack, netting his first career hat trick on eight shots on goal. Smith added the would-be game-winning goal on two shots along with an assist. Segool would also collect an assist along with Noble who had four shots of his own. Freshman goalkeeper
Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill High School) would collect two saves over 90 minutes.
The Highlanders return to action on Saturday as they head to Rosemont College for a CSAC Championship rematch at 1 p.m.
