RADNOR, PA - The Cairn University Men's Soccer team headed to Cabrini University Wednesday night, taking on the Cavaliers and battling to a draw after 90 minutes of play, 1-1.
Cabrini (3-3-2) went up on the Highlanders early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. Junior midfielders
Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) and
Caleb Rudloff (Quakertown, PA / Geneva College) would look to take advantage of open looks in the first half along with freshman midfielder
Landon Rice (Lancaster, PA / Lampeter Strasburg) as the first half closed 1-0. Cairn (2-3-2) would look to capitalize on multiple shots in the second half, none of which found the back of the net until the 76th minute when junior forward
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) put the Highlanders on the board, assisted by Rudloff, and knotted up the game at 1-1. Cairn would have one final open look in 86th minute with the ball changing possession in front of Cabrini's goal but would be called offside. Cabrini could not make it past the Highlander defense which stepped up big in the final seconds, blocking two would-be game-winning shots, as the match closed in a 1-1 draw.
Cabrini would outshoot Cairn 13-7 as both teams each managed only three shots on goal. Brittain led the offense for the Highlanders with a goal on two shots taken. Rudloff assisted on Brittain's goal and added a shot of his own. Beers would also take two shots on the night.
Cairn Men's Soccer continues their road trip, heading to FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. non-conference match in Madison, NJ.
