LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Men's Soccer team took on the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College in the finale of the full weekend in Cairn Athletics, falling in the nightcap, 6-1.
Lebanon Valley College (5-1) got things started early, netting their first goal twenty-three seconds into the match. The Dutchmen followed up three minutes later (3rd) pushing the lead to 2-0. The Cairn (2-2-1) offense looked to get started through graduate student midfielder
Aaron Campbell (Coopersburg, PA / Upper Bucks Christian School) but was saved by the Dutchmen goalie. Lebanon Valley struck again in the 28th minute. The Highlander offense tried for the net four more times before the half came to a close 3-0. The Dutchmen made a penalty kick followed (49th) followed by another goal to stretch the margin to 5-0. Senior midfielder
Ben Noble (Egg Harbor Twp. / Atlantic Christian School) would shoot on two open looks but both there saved. LVC scored their final goal of the evening in the 72nd minute. The lone Highlander goal came in the 78th minute via junior midfielder
Jack Fiacco (Sunderland, MD / Northern HS) assisted by Noble as the match closed 6-1.
Lebanon Valley had the margin in shots (18-13) while Cairn managed 8 shots on goal to LVC's 7. Freshman forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) and Noble had three shots while junior forward
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) and Campbell each had two shots apiece. Fiacco connected on his only shot of the night.
The Highlanders look to bounce back as they begin a four-game road trip ahead of the start of United East Skye Division conference play, heading to Ramapo College on Monday to take on the Roadrunners at 7 p.m.
