LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team earned their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory of the 2023 season via a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-12) victory at home over Bryn Athyn College inside the Mason Activity Center on Thursday evening.
Cairn (8-8, 1-1 CSAC) held a 16-10 lead over Bryn Athyn (2-12, 1-2 CSAC) at the midway point of the first set, before an eight-point serving run by senior
Cameron Cronk (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) that included three aces by Cronk and three kills by junior
Noah Ruiz Esparza (Levittown, PA / Tabor College) helped Cairn claim a comfortable 25-11 first-set victory. The Highlanders jumped out to a commanding 23-13 lead in set two, before the Lions made things interesting with a four-point rally and cut the deficit to five (24-19) at set point, before a kill by junior
Will Nase (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) granted the Highlanders a 2-0 match lead. Cairn finished off the match in emphatic fashion, downing Bryn Athyn 25-12 in set three to complete the sweep.
Cairn was led offensively by Cronk and Ruiz Esparza who each hammered down ten kills. Cronk added team-highs with seven aces and 10 digs, while Ruiz Esparza totaled a match-high .421 hitting percentage. Senior
Shea Scott (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) handed out a match-high 28 assists and scooped up six digs for the match.
The Highlanders will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, March 29 when they travel to Phoenixville to continue conference play against the University of Valley Forge at 7 p.m.
