LANCASTER, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team lost, 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 30-32) on the road in their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener at preseason favorite Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday evening.
LBC (14-9, 3-0 CSAC) gained the early edge after grabbing a 25-19 first set victory to take a 1-0 match lead, headlined by a five-point rally at the midway point of the set. The Charger stormed out to a 20-13 lead in set two, before Cairn (7-8, 0-1 CSAC) rallied back with a four-point swing to cut the deficit to three (20-17). Cairn got the Charger lead within two (22-20), but LBC finished off the set to take a 2-0 match lead. Set three was an instant classic with several different ties and lead changes, going deep into tiebreak. Cairn got within a point of taking the set after an attack error by the Chargers gave the Highlanders a 30-29 lead, but LBC claimed the next three points to complete the sweep.
Cairn was paced on the offensive side by freshman
Moses Gamble (Rocklin, CA / Rocklin HS) who posted a team-high 13 kills on a scorching .500 hitting percentage. Freshman
Josh Adler (Levittown, PA / Neshaminy) handed out a team-high 27 assists, while senior
Josh Moyer (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) scooped up a team-high eight digs for Cairn.
The Highlanders will return to the floor tomorrow as the continue conference play at home against Bryn Athyn College inside the Mason Activity Center at 7 p.m.
