LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team lost, 3-0 (24-26, 17-25, 20-25) at home against non-conference foe Elizabethtown College inside the Mason Activity Center on Wednesday evening.
Cairn (5-7) got off to a good start against arguably its toughest adversary so far this season in Elizabethtown (8-7), storming out to a 5-1 lead in set one. The Highlanders held a 19-14 advantage at the midway point, and clung to a 23-22 mark near the end of the frame. E-town tied the match up at 24 a-piece, and scored the final two points of the set to win the first frame via tiebreak. After winning set two, 25-17, Cairn tried to get back into it, trailing just 20-18 near the conclusion of set three, but E-town posted the next three points to take control of the frame and finished off the match.
Cairn was led on offense by junior
Will Nase (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) with a team-high seven kills, followed by freshman
Moses Gamble (Rocklin, CA / Rocklin HS) with six kills and a pair of aces. Senior
Shea Scott (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high 16 assists, five kills and three blocks, while classmate
Joshua Hoagland (Chiang Rai, Thailand / Chiang Rai International Christian School) added five kills and a team-high five blocks. Senior
Josh Moyer (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) paced the back row with a team-high nine digs.
The Highlanders will be back on the floor on Saturday, March 4 when they continue their home stand in a non-conference matchup against SUNY Old Westbury at 8 p.m.
