LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team got back in the win column via a 3-0 (25-1, 25-8, 25-4) sweep of non-conference for College of Old Westbury on Saturday evening.
Cairn (6-7) controlled the pace from the get-go, storming past Old Westbury (0-9) in set one, nearly shutting out the Panthers to the tune of a 25-1 first set victory. The Panthers regained composure early in the second frame, and were tied with Cairn at 3-3, before the Highlanders posted 14 of the next 17 points to take control. Cairn finished off the match with a commanding 25-4 victory in set three.
Cairn posted a season-high .481 hitting percentage in the win, including a season-high 15 service aces. The Highlanders were paced on the attack by junior
Noah Ruiz Esparza (Levittown, PA / Tabor College) with a match-high nine kills, followed by freshman
Moses Gamble (Rocklin, CA / Rocklin HS) with seven kills and a season-high six aces. Seniors
Jake Tolar (Fort Mill, SC / Nation Ford HS) and
Austin Tea (Rochester, NY / Greece Athena) added six and five kills, respectively. Freshman
Josh Adler (Levittown, PA / Neshaminy) handed out a match-high 27 assists, while sophomore
Kobe Cash (Yardley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) scooped up a match-high 12 digs.
The Highlanders will be back on the hardwood on Thursday, March 9 when they finish up their four-game home stand against non-conference adversary Eastern University inside the Mason Activity Center at 7 p.m.
