BRYN ATHYN, PA – The Cairn University Men's Soccer team took on the Lions of Bryn Athyn College on the road Tuesday night, shutting out the Lions, 3-0.
Cairn (6-5-4 / 3-1-3 United East Skye Division) went up in the 20
th minute on a goal by junior midfielder
Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Twp.), assisted by freshman forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool). Junior forward
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) continued the offensive push, putting the Highlanders ahead 2-0 with a goal in the 26
th minute. The half would close as Bryn Athyn (3-8-1 / 1-5 United East Skye Division) would fire off only a single shot in response down 2-0.
The second half got underway with Brittain scoring again in the 48
th minute which put the game out of hand in a hurry. The Lions would try three quick shots on goal in an attempted answer, all of which were saved. As the match came down to the closing minutes, Bryn Athyn would make two desperate tries for goal that would miss wide as the Highlanders held on to the shut out.
Cairn held the advantage with 25 shots (16 SOG) to Bryn Athyn's 9 (5 SOG). Brittain led the way with two goals on seven shots along with a goal from Beers on 9 shots. Miller had the only assist on the night. Freshman goalkeeper
Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill HS) collected his third shutout on the year with 5 saves.
Cairn Men's Soccer takes on Valley Forge at home this Saturday as they will honor their 8 graduating seniors pre-game. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
