Men's Soccer: Highlanders Shutout Defenders in Commanding Fashion, 8-0

LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Men's Soccer team hosted the Defenders of Clarks Summit University on Wednesday night, shutting out the Defenders in commanding fashion, 8-0.
 
Cairn (4-5-4 / 1-1-3 United East Skye Division) looked for scoring opportunities early as the Highlanders got off four shots in the opening minutes. Junior midfielder Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Twp.) would be the first Highlander on the board, putting Cairn ahead in the 37th minute of play as the first half came to a close. Beers wasted no time as we moved to the second half, scoring his second goal of the game on a penalty kick 45 seconds into the frame. Junior forward Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) turned on scoring mode as he recorded a hat trick in less than ten minutes of play, his first assisted by freshman midfielder Landon Rice (Lancaster, PA / Lampeter Strasburg) in the 49th minute, his second assisted by Beers in the 56th minute, and his third assisted by freshman forward Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) in the 57th minute. Clarks Summit (3-8-2 / 1-2-1 United East Skye Division) would record their only shot of the match in the 58th minute as it was saved. Senior midfielder Ben Noble (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Atlantic Christian School) put the Highlanders up 6-0 in the 58th minute, assisted by graduate midfielder Aaron Campbell (Coopersburg, PA / Upper Bucks Christian). Miller got in on the scoring spree, notching a goal of his own in the 7th minute assisted by a junior midfielder Chase Segool (Aston Twp., PA / Sun Valley) corner kick. Junior forward Ryan Buehler (Bethlehem, PA / Lehigh Valley Christian School) would close out the scoring as he recorded his first career goal in the 89th minute.

Cairn outshot Clarks Summit 30-1 and 24-1 on goal. Brittain led the Highlanders in scoring with three goals on nine shots followed by Beers with two goals and an assist on seven shots. Noble, Miller, and Buehler each had a goal with Miller adding an assist as well. Segool, Campbell, and Rice each added an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill HS) had a single save on the only shot he faced in the complete game shutout.

Cairn Men's Soccer heads to Notre Dame (MD) to take on the Gators in United East Skye Division play on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
