Women's Soccer: Highlanders Shutout Gators 3-0

BALTIMORE, MD – The Cairn University Women's Soccer team was on the road Tuesday afternoon, taking on Notre Dame (MD), where they shutout the Gators in regulation, 3-0.

Cairn (4-3-3 / 3-0-2 United East Skye Division) got things started early as senior midfielder Teresa Lee (Jackson, NJ /  Calvary Academy) put the Highlanders on the board 1-0 in the 20th minute, assisted by senior defender Grace Miller (Chapel Hill, NC / Central Bucks West). Freshman forward Cameron Cook (Morrisville, PA / Millersville University) followed up in the 38th minute, this time assisted by Lee, with her first goal of the season. As the first half was coming to a close, Cairn went up 3-0 on Notre Dame (4-6 / 2-3 United East Skye Division) as senior midfielder Micaela Prate (Huntingdon Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) scored, assisted as well by Lee, in the 44th minute. The Highlanders held off the Gator attack in the second half as Notre Dame would shoot 7 of their 8 shots in the frame. Notre Dame would look to get on the board in the 89th minute with the final whistle approaching, but the shot would be saved.

Cairn outshot the Gators 19-8, holding Notre Dame to a single shot in the first half, and held the advantage in shot on goal 12-2. Lee facilitated the Highlander offense Tuesday afternoon, scoring the first and would-be game-winner and assisted on both of the other Cairn goals. Prate scored on her only shot of the day and Cook took two shots scoring on one. Senior goalkeeper Isabelle Portis (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian High School) would collect two saves in another shutout.

The Cairn Women's Soccer team continues their road trip, heading to Wilson College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the Phoenix.
