Men’s Soccer: Highlanders Take Down Cabrini in Second-Straight Victory

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team was back in action on Tuesday night as they hosted Cavaliers of Cabrini University at the Stillman Complex in a victorious effort by a score of 3-2.

Cairn (3-2-2) set the pace early with graduate student midfielder Micah Portis (Abington, PA / Abington Senior HS) finding the back of the net off a header in the 16th minute for his first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore midfielder Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township).

Senior forward David Falcon (Wayne, NJ / Hawthorne Christian Academy) put the Highlanders up 2-0 only two minutes later (18th) off of a corner kick opportunity assisted by sophomore midfielder Jack Fiacco (Sunderland, MD / Northern HS). Cabrini responded in the 38th minute with a goal of their own to close the half with the Highlanders up, 2-1.

The Highlanders got off to a great start in the second half, challenging the Cavalier defense with a barrage of shots. Graduate student defender Tyler Skaer (Brookhaven, PA / Penn State Brandywine) added to the lead in the 60th minute, assisted off of a fantastic corner kick by Beers and a pass from Portis. Despite the Cavaliers' late effort with a goal in the 88th minute, the Highlanders secured their second straight victory.

Cabrini led in shots (16-12) and shots on goal (11-7) but this was no problem for sophomore goalkeeper Chris Eelman (North Haledon, NJ / Hawthorne Christian Academy) who secured eight saves in the complete game effort. Portis, Skaer, and Falcon contributed to the scoring column with a goal apiece.

The Highlanders continue their six-game home stand on Homecoming, Saturday afternoon (September 24), as they take non-conference opponent Salisbury University inside the Stillman Complex at 3:30 p.m.
