LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University baseball team swept their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader at home inside the Stillman Complex against Clarks Summit University on Monday, winning 4-1 in game one before claiming a 17-5 victory in the nightcap.
Cairn (17-11, 6-4 CSAC) jumped on the board first in game one with three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by two RBI-doubles by junior
Tyler Fox (Boyertown, PA / West-Mont Christian Academy) and freshman
Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy). Those runs proved to be all graduate student
Carson Conradt (Chino Hills, CA / Chino Hills) needed as the Highlander cruised to victory over Clarks Summit (1-20, 1-7 CSAC) in game one.
Cairn was led offensively in game one by Fox, classmate
Samuel Spadea (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) and senior
Joshua Melchior (Boyertown, PA / Valley Forge Baptist Academy) who each notched a pair of hits, while Melchior stole a career-high four bases. Conradt dominated on the hill, tossing a complete game, scattering just four hits, one run and striking out a career-high 13 batters.
In game two, the Highlanders again jumped out to another lead, putting three runs across in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Spadea. The Highlanders dealt another big blow in the bottom of the second inning, as graduate student
Brian Amantia Jr. (Columbus, NJ / King's Christian) connected on his sixth home run of the year and his second grand slam of the season to give Cairn a 7-0 lead, a lead it did not come close to giving up in the contest.
Senior
Caleb Edman (Nokesville, VA / Northern Virginia Community College) paced the Highlander offense in game two with a game-high three hits and a pair of stolen bases, while Melchior added a pair of base knocks. Freshman
Jared Sucro (Kamloops, British Columbia / St. Ann's Academy) scored a career-high four runs in the contest to go along with two stolen bases. Junior
Cameron Culver (Croydon, PA / Truman) picked up his fifth win of the year on the bump after tossing six innings, scattering four hits, three runs (one earned) and striking out seven.
Cairn will be back on the diamond tomorrow when they welcome Centenary University (NJ) to the Stillman Complex for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
