LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University baseball team won, 16-4, at home against non-conference adversary Eastern University on Wednesday, splitting their season series with the Eagles.
Eastern (10-20, 5-3 MAC Commonwealth) struck first with a run in the opening frame, before Cairn (14-11, 4-4 CSAC) began its offensive outburst with a five-run bottom half to take a 5-1 lead. Both teams plated a run a-piece in the second inning, before the Highlanders blew the game open with a four-run showing in the bottom of the fourth inning, highlighted by Cairn's first home run inside the Stillman Complex courtesy of graduate student
Brian Amantia Jr. (Columbus, NJ / King's Christian) to give the Highlanders a 10-3 lead. Cairn plated six more runs in the bout to finish off the contest. Their 16 runs are their most scored in a game this season.
Cairn was led offensively by freshman
Tyler Harris (Oxford, PA / Oxford Area) who tied game-highs with three hits and four RBIs. Juniors
Tyler Fox (Boyertown, PA / West-Mont Christian) and
Samuel Spadea (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) each matched Harris with three hits and a pair of runs scored. Amantia and freshman
Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) each registered a pair of base knocks, while both players scored a game-high three runs and Warr matched Harris by plating four RBIs. Senior
Dom Maglione (Hamilton, NJ / Steinert) improved to 3-0 on the bump this season after tossing five strong, scattering six hits, four runs (three earned) and striking out four. Sophomore
Connor Ferguson (Laguna Niguel, CA / Capistrano Valley Christian) and senior
Jarrett Johnson (Edison, NJ / Timothy Christian) closed out the bout, each tossing a pair of scoreless innings in relief.
Cairn will be back on the diamond on Thursday, April 14 when it is back inside the Stillman Complex for the second day in a row to take on Albright College in a non-conference tilt at 3:30 p.m.
