LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team won, 3-0 (25-6, 25-7, 25-6) against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Bryn Athyn College at home on Saturday, marking their third-straight win. In the contest, the Highlanders registered 31 total kills to the tune of a .479 hitting percentage, the highest hitting percentage in a match in program history (official statistics date back to 2006). Cairn also registered a season-high 23 service aces in the contest.
Cairn (4-4, 2-0 CSAC) flexed its muscles from the first set onward, overwhelming Bryn Athyn (0-2, 0-2 CSAC) with consistent serving and a balanced attack. The Highlanders easily claimed sets one and two, before the Lions managed to cut into the deficit slightly only trailing 6-4 in the final set. However, the Highlanders rallied off eight-straight point from there and finished off the match.
Cairn was led offensively by sophomore
Will Nase (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) who slammed down a match-high nine kills to go along with a .583 hitting percentage. Nase was followed by junior
Caleb Horning (Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) with eight kills and a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage, while sophomore
Joe Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / International Christian School) also notched eight kills at a .636 mark. Junior
Shea Scott (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) dished out a match-high 25 assists, while classmates
Joshua Hoagland (Chiang Rai, Thailand / Chiang Rai International Christian School) and
Josh Moyer (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown) tied match-highs with five digs. Senior
Dave Cassel (Silverdale, PA / Pennridge) led the serving effort with a career-high eight aces, while Hoagland followed with seven (also a career-high).
Cairn will be back in action on Wednesday, March 16 when it is back inside the Mason Activity Center for a crucial conference bout against Saint Elizabeth University in a rematch of last year's CSAC Championship match at 7 p.m.
